There’s something magical about summer light. The way it flows into a room, softens everything, and brings that light and airy summer home feeling we all long for.
I always find myself craving a lighter, fresher space this time of year – something that reflects the season and helps me slow down, breathe, and enjoy the little moments.
If you’re like me and love creating cozy, Nordic-inspired interiors, here are some simple ways to bring a bright and airy summer atmosphere into your home or read 7 Easy Ways to Bring Spring into Your Home
1. Choose Light, Natural Materials
In summer, I like to swap out heavier textiles for something softer and lighter – it instantly adds that light and airy summer feeling at home.. Think linen, cotton, or gauzy curtains that let the daylight in. A light throw on the sofa, crisp bedlinen, or even a new cushion cover in natural textures can instantly change the feeling of a room.
You don’t need to redo everything – just a few simple switches make a big difference.

2. Keep the Color Palette Soft and Natural
To create a calm summer vibe, I often use soft tones like white, beige, warm greys, or muted pastels. They reflect the light beautifully and give the room that airy Nordic feel I love so much.
I sometimes add a little pop of colour – maybe a vase in a dusty pink or a pillow in soft green – but I always come back to those nature-inspired tones.
3. Let Nature In
One of my favorite things to do is to bring in seasonal flowers, branches, or herbs from the garden or a nearby walk. It doesn’t have to be perfect – even a small bunch of wildflowers or a single branch in a vase adds life and softness to a space.
Summer is also a perfect time for open windows, birdsong, and the soft breeze flowing through the house, bringing that light and airy summer feeling to your home.

4. Create Summer Moments with Scent
Even in summer, I love lighting candles – especially those with light, fresh scents like citrus, sea breeze, or wild herbs. The right scent can change the mood of a room completely.
Lately, I’ve been using a beautiful scented candle from a Ukrainian brand – not only does it smell amazing, but it also adds a personal story to my home. I’ll be sharing more about it on Instagram this week if you’re curious.
5. Play with Light – Lamps Aren’t Just for Winter
Lighting isn’t only for the darker months. In fact, the right lamp can help you create mood even on a bright summer evening. I’ve been experimenting with a few new lamps lately, and I’m surprised how much they add – especially when placed in corners or used with soft bulbs.
If you’re unsure where to start, go for a table lamp with a warm tone, or try placing a lamp near a chair or in a hallway to create little “islands of calm.”

Final Thoughts
Your home should reflect the way you want to feel. For me, summer is all about slowing down, letting light and air in, and surrounding myself with simple, beautiful things that make me happy.
