4 Simple Steps to Prepare Your Home for the Holidays โ The Scandinavian Way
The holiday season always brings a special kind of excitement. I think of cozy evenings, delicious food, slow moments with family โ and a home that feels calm, warm, and beautifully decorated. โจ
But before all that magic happens, thereโs the reality: preparation, planning, and a bit of chaos. So I decided to write this post as a simple step-by-step guide to help you prepare your home for the holidays โ in a calm and mindful Scandinavian way.
Letโs make November the month of preparation, so that December can be a month of joy, presence, and togetherness โ instead of stress and clutter.

1. Declutter โ Start with a Fresh Canvas
Before you can create a cozy atmosphere, itโs important to clear your space.
Take everything out of your drawers, cupboards, and shelves. Sort your belongings into three categories:
โจ keep, ๐งบ donate/sell, and ๐ฎ let go.
Decluttering isnโt just about tidying โ itโs about creating mental space too. A clear home sets the tone for calmness and makes decorating so much easier later on.
2. Clean โ Bring Fresh Energy into Your Home
Once youโve decluttered, itโs time to clean deeply. Wipe down your cupboards, drawers, and surfaces. Wash your cushions, throws, and textiles to refresh the space.
Think about the environment too. I always choose eco-friendly cleaning products like Humdakinโ they may cost a little more, but theyโre gentle on both your home and the planet. ๐
Here are some of my favorite Danish brands that create natural and sustainable cleaning products โ they last so long youโll almost wish theyโd finish, just so you can buy them again!
3. Organize โ Create Calm Before the Festivities
Now that your home is clean, letโs bring order to the space.
Good organization is the foundation of a serene home, especially before the holiday rush.
When your space is organized, you can welcome guests with ease and enjoy the season with a peaceful mind.
Iโll soon share a few of my favorite Scandinavian-inspired organizing tools and tips that help create calm and balance โ even when December gets busy.
4. Find Your Holiday Inspiration
Once your home feels fresh and organized, itโs time for the fun part โ planning your Christmas decor! ๐
Think about:
- The color palette (do you want something soft and neutral or warm and golden?)
- The materials (wood, linen, glass, or metal?)
- The style (minimal, natural, or traditional?)
Planning ahead in November helps you fully enjoy December. Youโll have time to slowly decorate, bake, and simply be in your cozy home โ instead of rushing through the days.
My favorite place for finding inspiration is Pinterest โ itโs full of beautiful Scandinavian ideas. Iโll also share a few of my own favorite looks for this season soon.

I hope this post inspires you to slow down and prepare your home with care โ so December can be filled with joy, calm, and connection.
Take the rest of November to create a foundation for peace and coziness.

๐ Iโm cheering for you โ your effort matters, because the world truly needs more calm, warmth, and togetherness.
